Hi, I'm Wendy, author of the Heed the Wind series. I am no chef, but I wanted to make this collection of recipes for the home cook like me who wants historically inspired, beautifully designed, and tasty treats to not just simply host a tea party, but to transport her guests into a whole new world. Any one can make a box of cupcakes from the store, slather it in icing, and call it a day. But a true Victorian hostess wants to go beyond the ordinary and craft something amazing. Something people will truly experience.

All of these recipes are either inspired by real historical recipes from people like Mrs. Beeton (who wrote her own guide on household management in 1861) or have deep roots in the cultural atmosphere of the Victorian era. Some recipes come directly from my own cookbook, recipes that are historically-inspired, but are everyday treasures that I've been feeding my family for years. My husband particularly loves my jam recipe: a recipe that I gave to one of my favorite characters when I decided to make her an excellent cook in Fear the Wind.
